    As the coordinator of Europol’s Analytical Project Soya, Alexandru Joitoiu currently leads efforts to support and strengthen cooperation among Member States in combating currency counterfeiting.

    With over eight years at Europol, he has played a key role in coordinating the fight against money counterfeiting as part of the European Central Office for euro counterfeiting.

    Prior to this, Alexandru spent over 15 years as a specialist in the Romanian Police, fighting currency counterfeiting. His expertise is further enhanced by training from organizations such as OLAF, the FBI, INTERPOL, Europol, and the U.S. Secret Service, alongside his academic background in Economic Cybernetics and e-Commerce from the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies.

  • Presentation 2-Line Description: After a brief lull during the pandemic, criminal activities have resumed and it’s business as usual. Over the past two years, Europol has supported two significant operations that highlight the emerging trends and challenges in combating euro counterfeiting. These operations underscore that threats to the safety of the single currency now originate both within the EU and from international sources.
