In 2024, Mrs Angela N. Chileshe was appointed Director in the Banking and Currency Department of the Bank of Zambia, where she led the implementation of the new Heritage Series currency. The project marked a major national milestone, reflecting Zambia’s cultural and historical identity, and went on to receive the “Best Banknote Series 2026” award at the High Security Printing EMEA conference in Rabat, recognising excellence in design, security features and overall quality.
She joined the Bank of Zambia in 1995 as a foreign exchange dealer in the Financial Markets Department and advanced to Manager – Liquidity Forecasting. She was appointed Assistant Director – Currency Management in 2009, playing a key role in the currency rebasing exercise that removed three zeros from the Kwacha. She subsequently served as Assistant Director – Statistics and later Assistant Director – Balance of Payments Monitoring, where she supported the implementation of the electronic Balance of Payments system, modernising data collection and reporting.
