Bio:
Xavier Banchelin is currently Digital Document Security R&D Director in the Identity & Biometric Solution Business Line of Thales, where he drives the development and program management of chip-enabled solutions for identity documents.
As a R&D professional with in-depth experience of smartcard-related technologies, Xavier joined Thales 25 years ago and has held various engineering positions in France and Singapore, contributing to the deployment of several new key technologies such as the Javacards™ or electronic passports.
Xavier is a Graduate Engineer from Ecole Centrale Marseille, France.

Fraud in travel documents not only targets visual features but also the chip, which is a strong feature that securely stores the traveller’s data, using strong security mechanisms. We will review the mechanism used, as well as the latest innovation around the secure embedded software to maintain the lead over fraudsters, in particular the change in security certification and the ability to push security updates in the field.
