Matthew S. Davies has been Executive Director since January 2021. In this role, Matthew oversees multiple national-level programs related to admissibility enforcement and passenger facilitation, in addition to serving as a point of contact for engagement with the travel industry and the Office of Field Operations.
Matthew was previously the Area Port Director of Chicago, from December 2012 to March 2019. As Area Port Director, he was responsible for directing operations at ports of entry under the jurisdiction of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in the states of Illinois and Wisconsin. Matthew led the activities of over 650 employees at multiple locations, including the largest operation within the Area Port at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD). He was instrumental in leading the implementation of APC kiosks for CBP processing at ORD – the first U.S. airport to adopt this technology innovation.
Matthew previously served as the Area Port Director for Preclearance Operations in Dublin. In that role, he oversaw CBP operations at both Dublin and Shannon Airports and was the CBP Country Team Lead to the U.S. Embassy in Dublin. During his tenure, he implemented process improvements at Dublin Airport that significantly improved wait times, led the consolidation of CBP’s operational hours at Shannon Airport and oversaw the deployment of Global Entry kiosks to both Dublin and Shannon airports.
Matthew has completed numerous developmental assignments, including as the Deputy Director, Field Operations for the Chicago Field Office; Executive Director for Acquisition Policy and Oversight within the CBP Office of Technology, Innovation and Acquisition in Arlington, and Division Chief-Mission Support for San Diego Sector (Border Patrol). He previously worked as a Program Manager within APP at CBP Headquarters. He began his government service in 2002 with the Immigration and Naturalization Service in Buffalo, New York where he worked for over five years as an officer and supervisor.
He graduated from the State University of New York (SUNY) with a bachelor’s degree in English.
In this session, you will learn how CBP is expanding public/private partnerships to implement facial biometrics at air, land, and sea ports of entry to further secure and enhance the customer experience; leveraging touchless technologies and mobile services to provide travellers safe and efficient processes to plan for travel to the U.S; and safeguarding data and protecting the privacy of all travellers.
