GETTING AROUND

Milan is a relatively small city with an efficient and extensive public transport system. What’s more, if you stay in the city centre, you'll be able to walk to most of the city’s attractions on foot. If you need to cover longer distances, you can use the extensive public transport network and taxis.

Taxis

Licensed taxicabs in Milan are white and contrary to most cities in Europe, taxis in Milan rarely stop when someone hails them in the street. You'll need to walk to the nearest taxi stop or call to book one +39 27777.

Please note that if you book a taxi by phone, you'll be charged as soon as they receive the call.

Or book with the Municipality’s Milano In Taxi app available for iOS and Android or via www.taxi.comune.milano.it.

Public transport

The metro, tram and bus network in Milan is operated by ATM - Azienda Trasporti Milanesi and consists of 5 underground lines and numerous bus and tram lines. Those that pass near the conference centre are lines:

  • Bus: 40, 78, 91.
  • Train: R16, R27, S4.
  • Metro: M1, M5.

Tickets

You can simply use your contactless credit card or mobile payments device associated with a bank card to travel on metro and surface lines.

Simply touch your card on the reader to open the orange ticket gate at the start of your journey and touch out at the end of your journey to exit!

Advantages:

  • No extra costs, the cheapest fare is applied
  • No queue to buy tickets

Please note that any card or device can allow only ONE passenger at a time and prepaid postpay cards are not accepted.

Make sure to always use the same device or contactless card to touch in and out at the dedicated orange ticket gates (even when there are no gates or they are open). If one reader doesn’t work, try another on: every station is equipped with at least two orange ticket gates enabled for contactless payments.

More information here.

Metro

The city has five underground lines: M1 Rossa (Red), M2 Verde (Green), M3 Gialla (Yellow), M4 Blu (Blue) and M5 Lilla (Purple) connecting the city to the suburbs.

Bus lines 40, 78, 91 pass near the conference centre.
