What to do

Nyhavn

Nyhavn neighbourhood

No guide to Copenhagen’s must-see attractions would be complete without mentioning Nyhavn. A walk along the quay offers stunning views of some of the city’s most charming sights. Originally dug in 1671 to link Kongens Nytorv to the harbour, the canal is now bordered by inviting cafes and restaurants and beautifully restored colourful 18th-century townhouses. Relax at one of the many waterfront terraces to enjoy the atmosphere or take a boat ride to see key landmarks like Christianshavn, the Royal Library, the Opera House, and the Little Mermaid from a unique perspective.

Canal tours: duration +/- 1:45 hour

Another fantastic way to explore the canals is by taking the yellow harbour bus, which lets you travel up and down the harbour using a regular bus ticket. See Getting around.
