Christophe Baud Berthier has been working at Banque de France (BDF) for 30 years, focusing on French companies, households, and European cooperation.
Christophe specialises in macroeconomics, statistics, finance, corporate rating, banking supervision and cash cycle. Between 2005 and 2008, he was appointed as Financial Counsellor to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Singapore.
In mid-2019, Christophe became Head of the Cash Management Department. He is in charge of banknote issuance, transport and sorting. He oversees statistics and studies, maintains dialogue with the industry and contributes to combating counterfeiting in France in collaboration with the European Central Bank (ECB) and others national central banks within the Eurozone.
Christophe is responsible for BDF’s cash policy, encompassing citizens’ freedom of choice, BDF’s commitment to cash, and the economic reality. BDF promotes accessibility and security for all means of payment.
Christophe supports BDF’s action plan to consolidate cash together with multiple stakeholders such as government, credit institutions, and Cash in Transit (CIT). The main pillars of the action plan are acceptability, accessibility, efficiency and robustness.
Christophe is also responsible for storage and management of the national gold reserves and goldLior completed his academic studies in Israel, graduating with honours. He holds a first and second degree in Business Administration.
The state of access to cash in metropolitan France was generally very satisfactory at the end of 2020. The Banque de France is closely monitoring the situation and providing specific responses to the challenges of access to cash in cooperation with all the players in the cash cycle.
