Ton Roos has been the Director of Banknotes at the European Central Bank in Frankfurt since November 2008.
Prior to joining the European Central Bank, Ton was the Head of the Cash Policy Department at De Nederlandsche Bank in Amsterdam from 2002 to 2008, and the Deputy-Head of the Currency Policy Department from 1999 to 2002.
Between 1994 and 1999, Ton served as Plant & Technology Manager at a subsidiary company of Akzo Nobel. From 1984 until 1994, he held various R&D and management positions at Akzo Nobel.
Ton was a member of Banknote Committee (BANCO) of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) between 1999 and 2008 and became its Chairman in December 2008. In 2012, he was appointed member of the Executive Committee of the Central Bank Counterfeit Deterrence Group (CBCDG).
Ton holds a Ph.D. in Solid State Chemistry.
