Kalin Hristov has been Deputy Governor in charge of the Issue Department and Member of the Governing Council of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) since 23 October 2009. He was elected for a second six-year term of office by the 43rd National Assembly on 29 July 2015, starting from 24 October 2015.
Kalin graduated from the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering School in Pleven, Bulgaria. In 1996, he gained a master’s degree in Economics from the University of National and World Economy, Sofia, where he has taught since 1997, in the Economics and then the Finance Department.
Kalin first joined the BNB Banking Department’s Strategic Research and Analyses Directorate as an Expert in 1997, later moving to the Economic Research and Forecasting Directorate. In 2002, he was appointed Advisor to the BNB Deputy Governor in charge of the BNB Issue Department and promoted Advisor to the BNB Governor in 2003.Kalin was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the BNB Printing Works AD from 2009 to 2014 and currently chairs the Board of Directors of the Cash Service Company AD. He is a member of, among others, the General Board of the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB), the International Relations Committee of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB), the Economic and Financial Committee to the Council of the European Union, and the European Affairs Council to the Council of Ministers.
He is the author of a number of publications on issues such as macroeconomics, monetary policy, currency board, the Economic and Monetary Union, and the adoption of the euro in Bulgaria, and had co-authored additional articles and publications on economic and financial topics.

The Bulgarian National Bank presents the new series of banknotes with an integrated new and modern security concept, preserving the overall design and the main elements without significant changes compared to the banknotes in circulation.
